Both the states will be going through the primaries in coming days. Republican candidates addressed the issues of immigration, economy and the national security in the debate. Voters of the Midwestern state of Michigan are concerned over the issues of economic stability and job losses. South Carolina voters have their own worries related to the illegal immigration problems.

John McCain is leading in most of the opinion polls among all the republican candidates especially after his victory in the New Hampshire primary this week.

During the debate, John McCain impressed upon his commitment to the conservative ideals on the lines of the former President Ronald Reagan. “We have to return to those principles of less government, lower taxes, strong family values, strong national defense”, he said.

Mitt Romney, former Massachusetts Governor tried to impress the voters in the debate. “Washington has made promises to America it has not kept, and it seems incapable of dealing with the challenges we face globally and here at home “Mitt Romney said. Michigan State will have its primary on next Tuesday and Romney is one place behind than John McCain in the opinion polls.

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee pushed his point in this debate and said he has enough experience to deal with the economic recession and create more employment opportunities. Mike Huckabee is also a close competitor of Mitt Romney in the republican candidates for the President. “We created a record number of jobs that paid more money than the jobs they replaced”, said Huckabee.

As former Senator, he said, he has the toughest proposals to fight the issue of illegal immigration and he would reinforce the country borders. “We need to be a nation of high fences and wide gates and we get to decide when to open the gate and when to close it,” he said.

Participating in the debate, Rudy Giuliani emphasized the issue of national security. He stood in favor of the strength of the cold war that is similar to what was done to the terrorist’s war. He said,” that is why my first commitment to the American people is to be on offense against the terrorists”.
