Samsung with LaCie Introduced 1.3 Inch Large Capacity Hard Drive and Credit Card Size USB Key Max Drive
Samsung in a tie–up with LaCie has introduced an innovative development of 1.3 inch large capacity hard drive specifically for smaller devices. The duo will be bringing the new 30 GB and 40GB small drives as an addition to its ‘Little Disk’ range of products.

An updated version of its existing ‘credit–card-size USB Key Max Drive’ is also on the cards. Both of these products can be easily connected to any computer with a USB 2.0 arrangement.
Samsung designed the 1.3-inch hard drive with an intention to make the “most efficient use of capacity per volume”. Size of this hard drive is almost equal to the ‘Compact Flash II Card’. Development of this new technology has facilitated the ‘LaCie’ to win over the size limitation problems. It has also helped achieving the massive storage objectives with enhanced capacities for pocket-sized devices.
Edouard Doutriaux at laCie feels that the new 1.3 inch technology of the Samsung has made it possible to develop such small products. Expansion in the capacity of the drives has now been achieved with this technology. “By using this technology in these new mobile offerings, LaCie was able to see an increase in maximum capacity from 12GB to 40GB”, said Edouard Doutriaux.
Much smaller drives like 1 inch drives were introduced in the year 2000 by some other companies but these could not survive. Demand in the mobile phone industry was extremely scarce and therefore these smaller applications could not have any commercial viability.
During past couple of years the market is booming with the multimedia application devices and the demand is growing exponentially. It is changing the mobile phone industry and the market environment very fast. With this factor in focus, Samsung has rightly decided to design new products for smaller devices. Over the years the mass production of such devices has proved to be very profitable proposal in business.
The 1.3 inch hard drive by Samsung and LaCie has inbuilt ‘one-click’ back-up software for PCs and Macs. It also uses ‘SilverKeeper Backup Software’ for Mac specifically for regular backup of the data.
