A CNN opinion poll results released on Saturday revealed that the Republican presidential candidates would be facing a tough general election fight.

CNN survey results show that, the Democratic Candidates, Barack Obama of Illinois, and Hillary Clinton of New York have a double digit advantages, speaking statistically of course, over their Republican candidate rivals Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, and Mike Huckabee. Both the Democratic candidates have drawn more than 50% support in each of the hypothetical matchup.
Senator John McCain, the Republican candidate from Arizona however, appears to be in close race with the Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. McCain could draw the support of almost 48% while Clinton had a support of 50% and Obama was with a support of 49% of those who voted.
Hillary Clinton is the fore runner among all the front-running candidates from both the parties. If she wins the nomination from her party they will definitely vote for her, said 37% of the voters of this survey also. She has voters who do not support her and this percentage is 19%. This group of survey voters also expressed that they might consider voting for her under those circumstances.
Barrack Obama is an obvious second choice to Hillary Clinton among the survey voters who are staunchly supporting his candidature and wish to vote for him in the general elections. These voters constitute 30% of the total voters. John McCain is at the third place with 22% of the voters. Surprisingly, 355 of the voters said that they would have considered his candidature and voting for him if he were the Republican nominee.
CNN poll results have a point to worry for Romney. Almost 62% of the voters who took part in this poll straight away denied that they will not vote for this former Massachusetts Governor. Romney however could have support of merely 135 who said that they will definitely vote for him in the general elections.
The poll results also indicate that two of his GOP primary opponents might also face a similar fate when more than 50% of the voters in this survey polled saying they would definitely not vote for either man in November general elections. Almost 55% of the voters said they would not consider supporting Giuliani. On the same lines, nearly 52 % of the voters expressed the same opinion for Huckabee, a former governor of Arkansas.
John McCain however, is in close competition with Barack Obama in both the categories, with a favorability rating of 54 % and an unfavorability rating of 29 %. McCain is the only Republican candidate who has been included in the poll with a favorability rating of greater than 50 percent.
John McCain’s closest GOP competitor in the favorability category seems to be Giuliani, the former New York City mayor, with 46 % favorable to 39 % unfavorable. In the unfavorability category, Mike Huckabee is viewed negatively by only 30 % voters while viewed positively by 38 % voters.
The Republican Party appears to have a comeback from the opinion poll conducted in June last year. In that poll this party was voted unfavorably by 53 %. Although most of the Americans still say they have an unfavorable than a favorable view of the party, with the ratio of 48% to 41%.
The numbers for the Democratic Party are 55 % favorable and 34 % unfavorable. There is a slight improvement over its June performance that had 51 % favorable and 38 %unfavorable.
