Next 50 years will be witnessing almost 32 times more technological progress compared to the progress made during the whole 20th century, according to a futurological vision advanced by Ray Kurzweil, an eminent computer expert from America.It is all about the speed of technological advancements. Current pace of technological progress is extremely high and it will reach at the higher levels with tremendous speed soon.

One of the most important features that would be characterizing these technological advancements in next twenty years should be the development of computers which will be almost at par with the human brains and human intelligence. “One of such outcomes may be artificial intelligence matching human intellect the 2020s”, Ray Kurzweil says.

Ray is quite hopeful that machines of next generation will be replacing or supporting the human brains and intelligence capabilities. This would start an all new era of providing machine based solutions to many of the most puzzled and complex, intricate problems of this century that are still unsolved.

Ray Kurzweil in an attempt to conceptualize and index the technological challenges before the humanity feels that the machines will soon be able to learn communicating, teaching, and replicating on their own.

Ray’s predictions are mainly based upon mathematical calculations performed with the rate of advancements in computer chips which gets doubled up in its power and other features like memory capacity in a period of every two years. This rate is almost same for the past 50 years or so.

This is a paradigm shift and the rate of shift also gets double up every ten years. On the basis of this rate of shift, it is easy to understand that the next 50 years or the half century will be witnessing 32 times more technological advancements compared to the rate of such progress during the previous half century.

Almost every aspect of science and technology and many other sectors are undergoing tremendous changes and progressive transformations at extremely fast pace. Areas like computation, molecular biology, and communication technology are experiencing new heights. At the same time advanced researches in the fields of DNA sequencing, brain imaging, and other human knowledge and brain power related aspects are also getting revolutionized. Networking has become a core concept today and there are advancements in price-performance, bandwidth along with the capacity enhancements which have almost doubled up by now.

Computers of today are dependent on 2-dimensional silicon chip technology. Scientists have been successful in developing advanced techniques that will be helpful in designing the 3-dimensional chips enhancing the performance levels. A new concept has also been developed which is based on making these 3-dimensional chips from the biological molecules. With this innovation, it will be possible to miniaturize more metal based computer chips in near future.

Three dimensional molecular computing will be the next generation of computer concepts. It will also help in making hardware that will substantiate the’ artificial intelligence’ to be at par with human intelligence.

Reverse engineering of human brain will then enable designing of new software that will be having almost human brain like capacities. Scientists have discovered and identified almost twelve human brain regions and have developed simulation models for them.
Ray Kurtweil is hopeful of having a computer based non-biological “post-human” world, “where a second intelligent entity would exist alongside people”, he says.
