Recently held ‘Mobile World Congress’ has highlighted “Feature Richness” to be the core concept for latest mobile phone wave. Feature-rich mobile phones are the most cherished devices among the users across the world. Manufacturers and many service providers introduced several of new such features that are going to revolutionize the whole mobile phone industry in coming days.

Among the key features which were the center of attraction during this event included touch screens, navigation facilities, high-end digital cameras, multimedia applications and support of high speed broadband along with the support of Wi-Fi systems.
The concept of revolutionizing the mobile phone applications was introduced by the ‘iPhone’ which facilitated users with touch screens, though it was not for the first time. The ‘iPhone’ in fact had an attractive form factor and immensely useful user interface that enabled people to establish communications with touch. It also facilitated users with the content enlargement, photo-flipping, and menu-navigation.
Basic concept that acted as a main driving factor for the mobile technology at the ‘Mobile World Congress’ was ‘stylish form factor’ and ‘touch screens’. New phones were launched by almost all major manufacturing companies including LG Electronics, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, and Nokia.
Among the notable introductions was LG’s ‘KF700’ mobile phone that comes with a combination of three different input methods , namely the touch screen, a dialing shortcut for inter-application switching, and a alphanumeric sliding keypad. Other models of LG that also feature the touch screen are ‘KF600’,’KF510’, ‘KS20’, and the ‘Viewty’. All these mobile phones were introduced at the Event.
Samsung’s “Soul”, its flagship mobile phone, was also introduced at this Mobile World Congress. This phone is an addition to its ‘Ultra-edition series’ of mobile phones offering a balance with design and features. The ‘Magic Touch Technology’ applied to this device makes it a unique phone providing navigation indicators on the keypad for facilitating users with changing between the menu. Its mode specific facility enables user to switch between music, camera, and video modes. Respective icons will emerge out on the navigation menu automatically.
Touch screen technology applications are growing fast and according to an estimate of the ‘multimedia Intelligence’ the total number of mobile phone devices with touch screen facility will probably increase up to 200 million by the year 2011.
Navigation specific technological inputs have enlarged the scope of mobile phones up to great extents. Location is becoming fast a ‘core-concept’ with the inclusion of GPS technology. Direction is now the key word in this regard. It may be the driving direction or even the walking direction, all is associated with the new global positioning system.
‘ISupply’ estimates that the shipment figures for GPS enabled mobile phones will jump from its 109.6 million units in 2006 to almost 444 million in the year 2011. According to ‘iSupply’, compared to 11.1% mobile phones with GPS, the mobile phones having GPS inputs will reach up to 29.6% level by the year 2011.
Nokia is the top GPS compliant company at present. Its latest introduction, the ‘Nokia 6210 Navigator’ will have an advanced version of “Maps2.0’, the mapping software. For the first time a compass has been included with this mobile phone enabling the navigation functions specifically dedicated to the pedestrians. For car owners, the same mobile phone will have a car-mounted kit enabling the same GPS functions for users. With the GPS technology this mobile phone will facilitate users with satellite views and pre-loaded local maps with a one GB memory card. Nokia’s other launches including the 6220 classic, N78, and the N96 will also have the latest versions of Nokia Maps as pre-loaded application.
Sony Ericson surprised everyone during this Mobile World Congress and introduced its exclusive ‘Windows Mobile Smartphone’, the ‘Aperia X1’. This unique phone has in built GPS application. Its touch screen keypad is based upon specific “QWERTY” technology.
The home screen of this mobile phone device is also large and in similarity with the Apple’s iPhone. The large sized screen of this phone facilitates multi-panel access to web, multimedia, and many other applications.
Apart from these regular mobile phone devices, Kodak also came up with its high resolution image sensor that will enable mobile phones to include a high resolution 5 megapixel cameras in the mobile phones. This sensor is meant for mass consumption and apart from other uses it will be immensely useful for the mobile phones of future.
Popularity and demand for high resolution cameras in the mobile phone is continuously increasing across the world. Similarly on the same line Sony Ericsson also launched its new mobile phones with 5-megapixel cameras. These specific models are ‘G900’, and ‘C902 Cyber Shot’.
Each of these mobile phones is multimedia supporting device including music and video. Some of these devices facilitate creating multimedia on the phone itself and also facilitate direct uploading them to social networking websites like ‘MySpace’, ‘You Tube’, and others. These mobile phones also have in built ‘3G Technology’ for accessing data available on the ‘high- speed cellular networks’.
These are absolutely new grounds of sophistications on which new mobile phones are landing soon.
