If you are wondering what we are talking about, once you get the details of it you’ll know what the excitement is all about and especially if you are American you’d be excited too. US Military had celebratory news for us which also marks a big breakthrough in science and technology for us as well. F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Vertical Landing is what has been achieved a few days ago and this is definitely something that requires a lot of rejoicing at least from a military point of view.

The F-35 is already one of the most superior fighter aircrafts in the world at the moment within the category of fifth generation fighter aircrafts and this achievement of vertical landing is definitely more than just a mere feather added to the cap.

With this kind of capability proved in the aircraft now the US military especially the Navy and the Air Force have all new doors opened up to them as they can be sure of any kind of landing conditions whether on water or even on land, because this feat of vertical landing was performed on a landing ground that was a mere ninety five square meters in area which proves that constriction of space is not going to stop this plane from landing.

The landing therefore does make a huge difference to the whole point because with this kind of a capability, whichever country is going to use the plane will not have to worry about unprepared landing grounds or very small spaces as they can use the best fighter aircrafts and be able to land anywhere they have to and in extreme landing conditions as well. The US Military are the obvious beneficiaries while the Italian navy and Air Force as well as the Royal Air Force and Navy will be using these aircrafts as well.

Hackers Find it Easy to Snoop GSM Calls

There has been some serious scanning going on with the GSM phones that are being used. In many parts of the world there have been mobile phone users that came to be listened to with some payment of a few thousand dollars worth hardware. Some open source free tools could also be used to listen to such GSM mobile listeners. Telephone conversations and even text messages could also be recorded through encryption key system through the use of some determining processes. There are keys through which even secure GSM keys can be unlocked through dual tetrabytes cracking tablets. These contain all of the data and information combined which are required to crack in through some reverse phone book details.

The Chaos Communication Conference in Berlin had its lead researcher, Karsten Nohl, admitting that this is quite possible to crack open even through a secret GSM system. Nohl released a GSM cracking device which could be put to be illegal in many countries including US. But he did divulge the information about this being made of practical use already in many of the common and daily usage circles which make the best of its use. There are intercepting mobile phone calls that can be made illegal through several countries.

The GSM cracking tools are some of the readily available ones that are always present at the law enforcement department so that they can make use of any recording of calls that they want to keep track of.

Knoll has also believed that this is not only used for criminal tracking but the sharper side of crime definitely uses this for their own benefit. This is a basic copy of the usually “commercial product”, as shown by Knoll. Thus the ready availability as well as the inordinate presence of the product is already there.

Recently held ‘Mobile World Congress’ has highlighted “Feature Richness” to be the core concept for latest mobile phone wave. Feature-rich mobile phones are the most cherished devices among the users across the world. Manufacturers and many service providers introduced several of new such features that are going to revolutionize the whole mobile phone industry in coming days.

Among the key features which were the center of attraction during this event included touch screens, navigation facilities, high-end digital cameras, multimedia applications and support of high speed broadband along with the support of Wi-Fi systems.

The concept of revolutionizing the mobile phone applications was introduced by the ‘iPhone’ which facilitated users with touch screens, though it was not for the first time. The ‘iPhone’ in fact had an attractive form factor and immensely useful user interface that enabled people to establish communications with touch. It also facilitated users with the content enlargement, photo-flipping, and menu-navigation.

Basic concept that acted as a main driving factor for the mobile technology at the ‘Mobile World Congress’ was ‘stylish form factor’ and ‘touch screens’. New phones were launched by almost all major manufacturing companies including LG Electronics, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, and Nokia.

Among the notable introductions was LG’s ‘KF700’ mobile phone that comes with a combination of three different input methods , namely the touch screen, a dialing shortcut for inter-application switching, and a alphanumeric sliding keypad. Other models of LG that also feature the touch screen are ‘KF600’,’KF510’, ‘KS20’, and the ‘Viewty’. All these mobile phones were introduced at the Event.

Samsung’s “Soul”, its flagship mobile phone, was also introduced at this Mobile World Congress. This phone is an addition to its ‘Ultra-edition series’ of mobile phones offering a balance with design and features. The ‘Magic Touch Technology’ applied to this device makes it a unique phone providing navigation indicators on the keypad for facilitating users with changing between the menu. Its mode specific facility enables user to switch between music, camera, and video modes. Respective icons will emerge out on the navigation menu automatically.

Touch screen technology applications are growing fast and according to an estimate of the ‘multimedia Intelligence’ the total number of mobile phone devices with touch screen facility will probably increase up to 200 million by the year 2011.

Navigation specific technological inputs have enlarged the scope of mobile phones up to great extents. Location is becoming fast a ‘core-concept’ with the inclusion of GPS technology. Direction is now the key word in this regard. It may be the driving direction or even the walking direction, all is associated with the new global positioning system.

‘ISupply’ estimates that the shipment figures for GPS enabled mobile phones will jump from its 109.6 million units in 2006 to almost 444 million in the year 2011. According to ‘iSupply’, compared to 11.1% mobile phones with GPS, the mobile phones having GPS inputs will reach up to 29.6% level by the year 2011.

Nokia is the top GPS compliant company at present. Its latest introduction, the ‘Nokia 6210 Navigator’ will have an advanced version of “Maps2.0’, the mapping software. For the first time a compass has been included with this mobile phone enabling the navigation functions specifically dedicated to the pedestrians. For car owners, the same mobile phone will have a car-mounted kit enabling the same GPS functions for users. With the GPS technology this mobile phone will facilitate users with satellite views and pre-loaded local maps with a one GB memory card. Nokia’s other launches including the 6220 classic, N78, and the N96 will also have the latest versions of Nokia Maps as pre-loaded application.

Sony Ericson surprised everyone during this Mobile World Congress and introduced its exclusive ‘Windows Mobile Smartphone’, the ‘Aperia X1’. This unique phone has in built GPS application. Its touch screen keypad is based upon specific “QWERTY” technology.

The home screen of this mobile phone device is also large and in similarity with the Apple’s iPhone. The large sized screen of this phone facilitates multi-panel access to web, multimedia, and many other applications.

Apart from these regular mobile phone devices, Kodak also came up with its high resolution image sensor that will enable mobile phones to include a high resolution 5 megapixel cameras in the mobile phones. This sensor is meant for mass consumption and apart from other uses it will be immensely useful for the mobile phones of future.

Popularity and demand for high resolution cameras in the mobile phone is continuously increasing across the world. Similarly on the same line Sony Ericsson also launched its new mobile phones with 5-megapixel cameras. These specific models are ‘G900’, and ‘C902 Cyber Shot’.

Each of these mobile phones is multimedia supporting device including music and video. Some of these devices facilitate creating multimedia on the phone itself and also facilitate direct uploading them to social networking websites like ‘MySpace’, ‘You Tube’, and others. These mobile phones also have in built ‘3G Technology’ for accessing data available on the ‘high- speed cellular networks’.
These are absolutely new grounds of sophistications on which new mobile phones are landing soon.

“Freescale Semiconductor” will be displaying its new “Long Term Evolution (LTE) Technology” at the ‘Mobile World Congress Conference’ in Barcelona next week.LTE technology is expected to change the face of mobile phone industry in near future.

“FreeScale Semiconductor” is advancing this LTE technology that has a potential linear linkage from cellular handsets at one end to the cellular networks at the other end. The company claimed that the demo-tests of this technology proved a peak data rate of 96 Mbps on downlinks and 86 Mbps on uplinks. With this rate of data transmission and receiving the technology is capable to stream any high definition video at high speed.

“FreeScale” after its spinning off from Motorola in 2004 has developed its own new technology that is specifically aiming to capitalize the LTE on higher side. This new technology based architecture lowers down the clock speed and simultaneously also reduces the power consumption in addition to the high data rate The demonstrated capability of streaming high speed video with extremely higher rate of transfer also “illustrates both the growing maturity of the LTE specification and our unique implementation”, according to Tom Deitrick who is the senior Vice President and General manager of FreeScale’s cellular products group.

The company is making attempts to enter in to service agreements with some of the reputed service providers in order to commercialize the LTE products in more profitable way. Among the wireless carriers around the world UMTS technology is becoming popular day by day.FreeScale’s LTE technology will facilitate the high-speed wireless infrastructure and application of this technology will help in enhancing the UMTS infrastructure. Some of the top wireless service providers including Vodafone and Verizon have also expressed their probable plans to make a shift to LTE in near future.

“FreeScale” is currently applying customized processors with ‘microcoded engines’ for achieving the “Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM)” in order to keep a pace with the basic requirements of LTE high speed data transfer technology.

To strengthen the network base, “FreeScale” has also been successful in tuning up various types of ‘RF power amplifiers’, ‘programmable digital signal processors’, and ‘Power QUICC communications processors’ to be compatible with the LTE technology. The LTE infrastructure of “FreeScale” also features “coupled Layer 1 and Layer 2 LTE radio processing”, according to the company.

“FreeScale” acquired the semiconductor operations after its spinning off from Motorola. Motorola is also considering the sale or spinning off operations for its troubled mobile phone device unit. It is continuously loosing grounds in world markets to the giants including Nokia, Samsung, and LG.

IBM has recently introduced a new version of its data center automation software and has added many new features and enhancements to the existing software.
IBM’s “Tivoli Provisioning Manager 5.1.1”, the software performs many functions and also automates the discovery, deployment, configuration, and management of operating systems, patches, middleware, and applications on physical and virtual servers.

The ‘Trivoli’ software is capable of managing various applicable virtualization technologies. It can also manage the SAN and NAS based storage resources. The network devices acting as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers are some more features that can equally be managed with this software, according to IBM sources.

With the application of “Tivoli Provisioning Manager 5.1.1 (TPM)” companies can now easily arrange for an automation of their data center procedures and processes. These procedures and processes can also be modified by the out-of-the-box automation packages or by creating new ones.

Specific enhancements of this software include ‘Web Replay’. With the use of this enhancement the user is enabled to record the mouse clicks, data insertion, and other processes involved in any task. Once the whole is saved properly, the whole scenario can be replayed automatically and it saves a great deal of time.

The new version comes with a cross-platform patch support that helps customers automate steps in compliance efforts. Customers, with this new version can easily manage patches on Windows, Linux, Solaris, and AIX with the same level of efforts.

Another new feature of this new version software includes its ability to create and maintain application infrastructure maps. This facility is immensely helpful in improving the compliance and remediation, speed up problem solving, and simplifies daily resource management, according to IBM.

IBM has made special efforts in streamlining the installation process for the faster deployment of the software. “Trivoli” is the special brand name of IBM and in the month of November last year the company introduced software under this brand bearing name of “Netcool Customer Experience Management”.

IBM’s new version product will be useful for enabling the mobile phone devices, Internet, and other service providers for managing their accounts on the basis of customer, location, device, time, grouping, and service through a single dashboard. The software basically provides a clearer picture of network usage patterns and customer behavior.

According to the IBM, this new software will begin with its shipping during the first half of this year with the next version of Tivoli Netcool Service Quality Manager, software for administering telecom service quality.
